Portraits of Madagascar

I am mostly recovered from jet lag and trying to adjust to life here at home. I have started the task of sorting through 4,000 photographs. I started with the people, not the landscapes nor the wildlife. These are some of my favorite photographs of people. Most were requests by them. Some were my requests and then there were the ones where the people saw me taking a photograph and posed for me. Misaotra betsaka to the Malagasy people.

This shot shows my dilemma when taking photographs of villages.
The children did everything to get in the photo.

Merry-go-round in Manja

These two boys were showing off as our ferry was crossing the Mangoky River.

This woman asked me to take her photograph with her children, then did the pose
when I went to take the photo of her fish.

This woman called me into her compound to take her photo.

I saw these guys plowing the field. They saw me taking the photo and struck their poses.

I wanted a photo of the merry-go-round in this little village.
The children all jumped on it when I pointed to it.

Baobab Forest Photographs

I am back home, starting the work of sorting through more than 4,000 photographs. I plan to create galleries of photos for each part of the trip plus some themes. By in the mean time I will continue with adding a few small galleries of various stops. Here is a gallery of photos of the baobab forest we visited on September 2. The forest was one of the highlights of our trip.
